Frantz Louis Laratte was born on May 2, 1960 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He studied sculpture under his father Georges Laratte, one of Haiti’s foremost sculptors. Young Frantz began working with wood, and later became interested in the smooth rounded stones found at the bottom of rivers, which he used to create sculpture. Laratte believes that each stone houses a form created by nature and that he uses his skills to free the elemental spirits embodied within the raw material.
”Alluring and very talented! This decorative piece was sculpted and signed by the renowned Haitian artist Frantz Louis Laratte. This stone sculpture stands 12'' tall and shows a beautiful woman holding her child. The picture that you see do nothing to convey the true splendor of the sculpture. To view it up close and personal is absolutely breathtaking.”/p>
