Serge Jolimeau was born in 1952 in Croix des Bouquet. He began his artistic career in 1972 working with the Louisjuste brothers. He joined the Centre d'Art in 1973 upon the advise of Pierre Monsieur. Borned to a family of farmers, voodoo and folklore played a significant role in his upbringing. The complexity and richness of this culture are most evident in his artwork, most of which are devoted to Voodoo subjects. He was the first fernier to introduce multiple spatial places in his creations by superimposing one figure in front of another.
“Jolimeau is considered one of the great Sculptors of Haiti. His use of powerful, unworldly images from the depths of Voodoo tradition are most evident in this strong and unique work. In the exhibition catalogue of a major show of Haitian Art, Tracing the Spirit, from the Davenport Museum of Art, it states: " Haitian artists who work in metal, and Serge Jolimeau is one of the best, rarely depict elements of the world outside of Haiti. ”
