Voodo Ritual
David Rouzier "Voodo Ritual"
Painting Description:
Voodoo ceremony is one of David Rouzier's finest achievements. In the forest of Jacmel, a voodoo ritual is in progress. The ritual is performed around a sacred tree. A scull emerging from the middle of the tree serves as a messenger of the gods. The voodoo priest, holding a machete, is sprinkling blood as a symbol of purity. There is also a ritual bottle, several crosses and an egg on a plate representing the united spirits. The dark color scheme, isolated setting and the sacred all combine to convey this spiritual experience.
