About artist

Calvin Mondesir

Calvin Mondesir, born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti in 1945. He majored in English at the Lycee Toussaint Louverture where he received his diploma. From 1966 to 1972, he worked as a French and English teacher. In 1972, he started working with the Legendary Haitian master Prefete Duffaut. He was discovered in 1981 by Swiss Journalist, Writer Guy Thebault who exhibited his works in Geneva.

About the work

Painting Description:

This painting depicts several peasants engaged in a voodoo celebration. This voodoo ceremony as explained by Calvin Mondesir is dedicated to many spirits. Depicted in the painting are seven lit candles, two drums to call out to the loas (spirits), a bottle of alcohol to drink and mix with a substance in the plate. The painting also captures the spectacular scenery of the surrounding mountainous landscape. The painting is fully guaranteed to be original work of the artist.
