About artist

Decourcelle Gourgue

Decourcelle Gourgue was born on August 24, 1927 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He attended college at the St. Louis Gonzague. In 1957, he began to study painting with brother Jacques Enguerrand Gourgue, an established artist. Decourcelle’s paintings are very rare and are treasured by collectors worldwide. He has held exhibitions in Europe and at galleries in Haiti. Illustrations of Decourcelle’s work can be seen in John Allen Franciscus’ book, “Haiti Voodoo Kingdom To Modern Riviera”.

“ A masterpiece by the famous Haitian painter, Decourcelle Gourgue. This painting depicts two men in a sailboat with a female passenger. One man is raising the anchor in preparation to sail while the other steering the boat. Decourcelle’s skillful color coordination captures a glorious Caribbean sunset, which bathes the entire scene. This painting is 11-inches x 14-inches and is on canvas board. The painting and frame are in excellent condition.”
