Carel Blain was born on September 23, 1961, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Carel is a self-taught artist who considers himself an expert painter of portraits. He started painting children's portraits and villages in the 1990s. His work won immediate recognition, which led him to become one of Haiti's most distinguished artists. Carel is also a respected art teacher in Haiti. Jonas Exume and Sancois Francois are two of his most noteworthy students. He has held numerous expositions in New York City, Mine D'art in Florida, in Haiti at the Florville in Kenscoff, and at Touche d'Art gallery in Petionville.
