Jacques Dorcé was born in December 19, 1942 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. After graduating from High School, he worked as a mechanic while attending the Académie des Beaux-Arts. His decision to become a painter was influenced by the legendary Haitian master Rigaud Benoit, his adopted father. Jacques became a member of the Centre d’Art in 1966. His talent was immediately recognized both by the Centre d’Art and the general public. His paintings were amongst the first selection of Haitian art sold on May 22, 1969 at the Sotheby Parke-Bernet Galleries to raise funds for the construction of the Centre d’Art. Jacques Dorce’s paintings continues to sell at many major auction houses. Jacques is listed in the Davenport Art Reference and Price Guide and numerous Haitian art books. He now lives in Los Angeles and works as an electrician. Illustrations of his work can be seen in John Allen Franciscus’ book, “Haiti Voodoo Kingdom To Modern Riviera”.
