Fernand Pierre born in January 7, 1919 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was a woodcarver who made little souvenir dogs before he began painting in 1948. Fernand’s work greatly fascinated Walter E. Neiswanger, a US Physician. It was Neiswanger’s acquisition of this work that prompted the now historic collection of Haitian Art at the Daventport Art Gallery. The gingerbread Victorian houses in the old residential sections of Port-au-Prince became a favorite subject for many of Fernand’s paintings. His work is among first selections of Haitian Art on permanent display at a public art museum in the United States, the Davenport Art Gallery in Iowa. Illustrations of his painting can be seen in Gérald Alexis book, “Peintres Haïtien” and John Allen Franciscus' book, "Haiti Voodoo Kingdom To Modern Riviera".
