Levoy Exil, according to Selden Rodman, is the best lyrical of the five great Saint Soleil artists. His paintings are uneven and made up of thousands of golden dots (tributes to Saint-Soleil). Selden Rodman, in his book “Where Art is Joy”, devoted an entire chapter expound the talent of this Haitian artist. Exil was born on December 7, 1944 in Fermate, Haiti. He attended art class from the school of Saint Soleil, which was founded by the Haitian legend Jean-Claude Garoute. Garoute was also the founder of Poto-Mitan, the Museum of Ceramics. Levoy's paintings consistently depict various loas and voodoo deities. His paintings are highly regarded and valued amongst art collectors. He has held exhibitions in Haiti, the United States, Japan and Europe. Illustrations of his painting can be seen in Gérald Alexis’ book, “Peintres Haïtien” and Selden Rodman’s book “Where Art is Joy”.
